Happy Holidays

The Holidays are quickly approaching and before you know it you will be knee deep in gifts that need to be wrapped.  Trust me…NO ONE likes receiving a gift in a plastic store bag!

One way to stay ahead of the game is to wrap gifts as soon as you purchase them.  Some of us purchase gifts WAY before the holiday season and I have found that keeping my holiday gift wrap in one central location throughout the year keeps me a head of the game!

Check out these great ideas for storing your wrap all-yearlong:

A holiday hamper can be hidden away in the closet or displayed.

Over the door storage is my favorite idea.  No one ever thinks to use this space.

Under the bed storage is another space that can be used and is easy to get to.

Shoes, shoes, and more shoes

The biggest problem area I find with my clients is their closets.  It seems to be a catch all for everything that doesn't have a place.

To free up some space in your closets, I suggest you start with your clothes.  Go through your wardrobe and donate those items that you know you will not wear again.  My motto is: "If you haven't had it on in over 1 year, it is time to part without tears!"

Another idea is to use pant/skirt hangers to save space.  Hang your handbags, clutches, and scarves in hanging shoe holders (which you can buy anywhere).

Now onto my favorite part!  Shoes!  Like most women, I love shoes.  I usually buy the shoe first then the outfit to match.  I found that my shoes seemed to overrun my closet.  I also felt that I wasn't giving my shoes the proper attention they deserved!  Now my shoes look like this:

It is a clean and simple way to store your shoes.  No more shoe boxes!  I bought clear storage containers from the local dollar store.  Then with my digital camera, I took a picture of each shoe and printed them out.  I taped the picture of the shoe to the inside of the box.  Now I can see where the shoe is, easily pull it out the box, and it is easy to put away at the end of the day.

A cheap project (depending on how many shoes you have!)

Try it.

TIP #15 - Child Artwork.
As a mom, it is hard to throw away anything your child has made for you in school. Here are simple ideas to display and store your child's creative genius:
1. Display artwork in shadow boxes or frames around your home.
2. Scan paperwork (test, certificates, awards, etc.) onto a flash drive so you and your child will have access to the memories forever.
3. Take pictures of 3D objects and turn them into wall decals, t-shirts, jewelry designs or stickers.
4. Store artwork in art portfolios divided into grade levels.
5. Have your child help you decide what piece is their favorite to keep or display.
